Customer benefits

No customer financing or deposit

Customers can make savings from day one, with no up-front deposit and no complex financing.

Lowest barrier to entry

With no deposit and no fixed payment plan, the MOPO Network drops all barriers to entry for customers.

Customers can still pay with cash

Customers can use mobile money, but for many markets, cash is still king. Mobile Power accepts cash payments.

Energy and clean transport solution

Customers energy and transport needs are solved with a single service, unlike other energy solutions.

Partner Operator benefits

Reduced distribution infrastructure

Energy distribution is no longer dependent on connections to grid or consumers, reducing risk and increasing revenue.

Profitable without subsidy

MOPO Hubs can generate returns from off-grid communities without being dependent on subsidy.

Enter additional markets

Multi-purpose MOPO Batteries enable operators to enter new markets including e‑mobility, generating additional revenue.

Leverage existing infrastructure

Spare capacity and resources can be monetised by installing MOPO Hubs on existing infrastructure.

A proven track record

battery rentals

With over 3 million battery rentals and a current rate of over 3 million rentals per year, Mobile Power has a proven track record. In Sierra Leone we have provided energy to over 100,000 people and counting.

Across 6 African nations

The MOPO energy solution is relevant across Sub-Saharan Africa. MOPO Hubs are operating in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria, Uganda, Zambia and The Gambia.

Displacing 2,071,250 kg of CO2

Our solution can make small petrol generators and motorbikes a thing of the past. In addition to emissions, generators and motorbikes are noisy, dirty and expensive to run.

With in-house R&D

Our Design & Engineering team, based in Sheffield, UK, works hand in hand with our local teams to deliver product-market fit that cannot be outsourced. This has been crucial to the success of Mobile Power.

Our Approach

Here's how it works

A unique pay-per-use business model allows off-grid customers to access clean energy through our agent network.

Generate

Our MOPO Hubs are conveniently located for our customers within their community and are powered by solar.

Each MOPO Hub provides up to 4 full‑time jobs for local women and men as our MOPO Agents.

Distribute

MOPO Agents distribute batteries to consumers, managing relationships and ensuring timely return of the batteries.

MOPO Batteries are secure by design, and can only discharge energy after agent payment through the MOPO App.

Use

Customers use the energy for a variety of purposes such as phone charging, lighting and for powering small DC appliances.

The larger MOPOMax is used for productive energy use such as our emotorbikes, tuktuks or commercial activity.

Pioneering software to reach millions

The MOPO Platform and our MOPO Apps enable efficient remote management of MOPO Agents, their financial performance, and our assets.

Every asset in the network incorporates NFC technology, enabling data transmission in an offline-first environment - an achievement which spans our in-house hardware, firmware and software competencies. This is essential for a robust Africa-wide network and reduces transaction costs.

Blended IoT technology

The MOPO Network incorporates many IoT technologies across our products, including NFC, Bluetooth (BLE), Captive WiFi networks, 3G/4G/NB-IoT, GPS.

Decentralised and offline-first

Our blended communications technology enables the MOPO Network to operate in an offline-first, decentralised manner, with efficient data synchronisation performed when possible.

Countless applications

Our software stack and decentralised credit management approach has countless applications in rural communities, as the transaction cost on the MOPO Network is zero.

E-Mobility

Enabling sustainable mobility for Sub-Saharan Africa

Our larger MOPOMax battery extends the benefits of pay-per-use battery sharing to enable sustainable mobility in Africa, reducing transport costs for drivers.

Fuel prices are a major factor in the price of goods across the continent. Reducing transport costs through electric mobility benefits both the economy and the planet. 2 and 3-wheeled transport is now the dominant mode of transport in Africa, which is urbanising rapidly. The motorbike import market alone is estimated to be worth $9 billion per annum. Replacing the fuel for these vehicles with solar is a multi‑trillion dollar opportunity - one we have the IP and experience to unlock it

Through the MOPO Network

Leveraging the MOPO Network

The MOPO Network solves the major challenges for EV adoption in Africa, especially in off-grid markets, where MOPO Battery rental hubs are already successful.

  • E-mobility benefits
  • MOPO Network is a vehicle agnostic battery solution
  • Battery-swap will be essential for off-grid markets
  • Vehicle finance limits customer uptake of EV products
A vehicle agnostic battery solution

Our multi-purpose MOPOMax battery was always designed with multiple vehicles in mind, ensuring the MOPO Network is never tied to a specific brand or type of vehicle.

Battery-swap is essential in off-grid markets

Off-grid and weak-grid markets require public charging as users cannot charge at home reliably. Battery-swap is the only viable model for commercial riders who cannot wait hours between each charge.

Vehicle finance limits customer uptake of EV products

Our pay-per-use battery sharing model already solves the issue of customer finance, and our e-mobility products leverage this to enable multiple ownership models, including leasing and lease-to-own.
